I'm going to be doing some traveling for a few weeks and I need some good sci-fi.
My favorite sci-fi tends to be the harder stuff. The Three Body Problem trilogy and Rendevous with Rama are both great books and exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for.
Project Hail Mary, while hard sci-fi, was too ridiculous. I think there were a couple hundred "chance-in-a-million" things that of course went perfectly.

Kim Stanley Robinson is along those lines, the good-at-science-ok-at-humans school of writing. His Mars trilogy is great stuff.
