I have read the Queen's Gambit by Walter Trevis, and 'Check & Mate' by Ali Hazelwood; and I enjoyed both.
When I looked up Chess-based fiction, I found those two, and half a dozen trashy romances that have little to do with the game.
I'm looking for something where the Chess actually has a major role to play in the plot, or the prose. Any thoughts?
