I typically read a lot of more adult science fiction/fantasy or books that are a lot more bleak or disturbing, but after so many of those my wife is making me promise to read just one book that has some hope and good feelings in it that I’ve never read. Basically think Cormac McCarthys The Road, then give me the opposite.
I typically prefer more adult oriented books. As far as setting goes I typically prefer sci fi or high fantasy or something a bit on the gothic side. But with my wifes rule of just anything fun and uplifting i will take any suggestion thats well written and engaging. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Barry Hughart’s The Chronicles if Master Li and Number Ten Ox series
How about Discworld, The Color of Magic? The Discworld book series is a fantasy sci-fi with some good humor in it. This book has a depressing element as some of the characters realize how much of a ****hole their society is.
