Hello! I'm looking for an angsty romance story (I'm open to most tropes) led by queer characters and explores uniquely queer experiences (gender, sexuality, sex, oppression etc..). I have a NWLNW preference (non women liking non women, non binary, trans and cis men/mascs..) but i wouldn't mind sapphic dynamics either, it's just priority and preference (since I'm nwlnw). I'm apathetic if it's poly/mono/ambi so long as the characters and partners have good chemistry.
I'd very much prefer if it's complimented by other settings and genres (fantasy, sci fi, psychology++ etc..) and is more story driven than character driven (if there's slowburn to it +++++)
I'm pretty flexible in my taste so long as the prose is alright and the story is captivating enough, length doesn't matter, I'd prefer longer stories actually but that's optional. Exploring trauma, mental illness and dark themes are fine unless they cross one of my limits.
My limits would be illegal relationships, romanticizing abuse, disgusting/unnecessarily too many/unrealistic sex scenes/body images, romanticizing mental illness (exploration and psychological horror are fine but don't sing praises to them!!!).
Fluff and smutt are good so long as the smutt is well executed and doesn't make the book an erotica.
Since I'm already this deep I'd also be curious exploring intersectional elements (BIPOC cast, life as a proletarian/poor person and exploration of classism, disabilities and neurodivergency etc..) but that's optional and they merit their own in depth stories.
that's it, i think. imo it might appear like I'm asking for much but I'm lenient, most things are optional and broad enough. I'm just looking for a good angsty queer book!
