As the title says, I'm going on a long flight tomorrow. I'd love a book that makes me forget where I am and carries me through 12 hours more or less. I don't need it to change my life or teach me anything new. But I'd love for it to be totally engrossing.
For example, I love the thrillers many of us love here like Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, Shutter Island, Verity (controversial, I know, but I liked it).
Lifelong epics like The Goldfinch and A Little Life were great reads for me, despite the trauma porn.
I also love historical fiction, particularly around WWII, like All the Things We Cannot Say, Unbroken (this one's a memoir), and The Nightingale (The Great Alone was also good).
For some reason, I'm not resonating with favorites here like Demon Copperhead, The Remains of the Day, and Pachinko, if that helps at all.
Any ideas, my fine reading friends?
