I love horror, twisty thrillers,dystopian scifi
not a fan of fantasy generally and it seems all the recommended series are fantasy/romance with fairies et . Last series I got lost in was 20 years ago His dark materials, otherwise just lots of detective series which aren’t what I’m looking for so I’m well overdue !!
Edit : ideally not young adult series for right now

Sounds like you’re due for Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion. Sci-fi horror with the Shrike being one of the best villains in all of speculative fiction.
