I would love to hear your opinions on novels (fiction only, please) that can serve as therapeutic tools/symbolic healing for survivors of abuse. It would be even better if the novels have shifting perspectives that would allow one to see how an abuser might also be a survivor of generational abuse themselves. I would love if the book allowed readers to examine how survivors of abuse can use literature to heal from their trauma when they have not/never will receive(d) an apology from their abusers. I would like to specify that the cycle of abuse in these books be emotional/physical abuse at the hands of the characters’ parent(s)—(no sexual abuse, please). If anyone knows of a book where the POV shifts to the perspective of the abusive parent(s) so that readers gain insight into the experiences of abusers who were once victims themselves, that would be extremely helpful. Thank you!
