For context I’ve read Old Man’s War by John Scalzi and loved it, but have heard the rest of the series is much poorer.

I also read the Vorkosigan series when I was younger and adored it (seriously, Lois McMaster Bujold can write a ten paragraph backstory into a single elegant sentence)

Any tips for good reads would be appreciated.

    1. Try John Ringo, Michael Z Williamson and David Weber. They all write military science fiction.

I would recommend Freehold from Williamson, the March Up Country series from Ringo and the Safehold series from Weber. All have much more to offer but these are a good start.

Vatta’s War series by Elizabeth Moon (and then the Vatta’s Peace series, first two books are out now).

    3. I love the Frontlines Series by Marko Kloos, Terms of Enlistment is the first book. It’s probably one of my favorite military sci-fi series, it’s kind of a coming of age story in that you follow the lead character Andrew through his military career as he battles it out against a giant alien threat.
