Hi! I’m trying to get more into reading and I seem to love books surrounding history, social justice, and/or how life is in oppressed communities.
Book topics I’ve read and loved:
– Women in the middle east who were unfortunately sold/forced into child marriages
– North Korean defectors, their escape journey
– Amish women who have since left the community and shared their experiences
– The experience of wars, depressions, etc
– Experiences being black & facing police brutality
Basically, I’m a nerd for gaining information on history and how the world is operating beyond western privilege .

Trevor noah’s born a crime. Is my favorite auto biography about growing up being half white and half Xhosan in South Africa. It’s a great balance of real hardships and some pretty funny moments. I also read Red Colbat about mining Camps in the Congo. It was just ok; like people’s real lives felt “ statisticalized “ and it’s just horrible event with no impactful stories or personal emotion attached.
