I’m not sure how I missed this book growing up. It seems to be insanely popular, especially for young people based on all the “I first read The Outsiders when I was twelve” comments I’ve both heard and read. So, I’m surprised it never fell into my hands as a very well read child.
I also have never seen the movie adaptation despite being a massive cinephile. So, when I went in, I was a little worried that I’d find the subject matter or writing style too juvenile; but quite frankly, I thought it was quite masterful. It was because they were juveniles that it really affected me.
To be frank, I don’t think I would’ve been as sympathetic had I read it as a kid, so I’m pretty happy I got to read it when I did.
When did you first read The Outsiders, and how did it affect you?
