My dad (70m) and i (37f) have had a strained relationship, i dont really feel all that close to him and i live several states away now., I'd like to make a better effort to repair our relationship and get closer. We have always been able to chat about what we are reading,, so i am looking for a book we could read together.
He loves history and crime thrillers. I am more of a time travel, sci fi, and travel-focused books. Looking for some recommendations that might merge our two worlds and give us something to reconnect on.
He loves Erik Larson books – Splendid and the Vile and Demon of Unrest. And is currently reading a huge historal meta book on the colonization of America. Hes can rip through and James Patterson in like a day.
I love VE Schwab books (Vicious, Addie LaRue), Flowers for Algernon, Bill Bryson (In a Sun Burned Country).
Any ideas that can help me talk to my old man again?! Thanks in advance.

Time and Again (1970) by Jack Finney checks the history, crime, sci-fi (mostly), and time-travel boxes.
If you wanted to lean a bit on dad’s side, check out The Killer Angels by Michael Sharra.
