A little specific, but I'm looking for fictional stories where the main character is "trained" or mentally transformed in some way but is completely unaware of it, and the reader gets to see their unfiltered thought process as they go through the change.
I guess it would be something like Flowers for Algernon—except the subject matter and transformation that the MC goes through would be a lot more extreme.
Just as an example, it would sort of be like the MC is groomed into believing they are a dog (given dog toys, dog food, constantly told they're a "good pet", etc. in their day-to-day life), until eventually they start to behave like a dog and have virtually no human characteristics by the end of the book. They truly believe they are a dog and can't fit into normal society.
Hopefully something like this exists. Also, the weirder the better, lol.

I’m pretty sure there was a short story like this in George Saunders Tenth of December. Think it was “Escape From Spiderhead.”
