Please tell me about the stories that gave you the creeps, that made you look over your shoulder, turn on a light. I will happily accept standalone books and/or short story collections. I am not asking for a specific theme, as everyone's idea of genuinely scary is quite diverse! 😀

I get scared really easily so keep that in mind. But I got all the creepy feelings when I read Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. The atmosphere and world building was so immersive and strange. Loved it.
**House of Leaves** by Mark Danielewski is still the only book that has given me literal nightmares.
