I am looking for a specific book where a mother, who is later revealed to have münchausen syndrome, pretends her daughter is sick. The father (and I think maybe also brother) died in a car crash I think.
A family moves in next door and the daughter and the other family's son start emailing all the time and fall in love.
The daughter's mother says she has severe immune deficiency and keeps the house very sterile. The daughter's nurse suspects over time that she isn't actually sick and that it's all in her mothers head, because she wants to keep her safe and with her since the rest of the family died.
I remember the daughter's love interest brings a gugelhupf as a kind of introduction gift but apparently his mother can't bake very well and it is hard as a rock. Also, I think I remember the daughter's favourite book being Lord of the Flies (not quite sure tho)
I must've last read it like 8 years ago but I can't be sure…
