I know that there have been posts galore about this book, and how dark yet beautiful it is. But having finally finished it and absorbed it as much as I have any book, it leaves me so confused despite having understood it quite well. So many of the intricate subplots makes me wish I was a Spanish speaking student in college who could take a class dedicated to this book to explore the small cogs that turn the whole story.
Some notable things for me, in no specific order
Ursula being the absolute backbone of the family, as she does not have the destructive tendencies of a buendia
Colonel Aurelianos inability to love being the true center of his character, despite being the most storied Buendia, he is completely forgotten simply because he never loved any of his children
Jose Arcadio and Aureliano by Santa Sofia de Piedad being switched as kids and being switched back in death
Jose Arcadio by Fernanda being murdered and and squandering the long kept gold in his depravity
The poor fate of Meme and Mauricio, if only Aureliano Babilonia could have lived a more normal live.
The more I think about it, the more I feel that the major antagonists of this story are Fernanda, and Pilar Ternera, although unintentionally. They are simply living, but their decision had spelt so much ill for the family.
Sorry for the rambling post, I had go get this out in some way this book kinda wrecked me in the end lol.
