If you’re open to YA, I recommend anything by Tamora Pierce.
{{ Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce }} is the first of her books and the first I read but there are many different quartets of books set in the same realm that you could start with.
The duology about Alanna’s daughter is also a great read, starting with {{ Trickster’s Choice by Tamora Pierce }}
