Suggest me a book that will help me feel less lonely

My best friend that I moved to a new city with is in the hospital and my house will be empty for a month. I'm in a new town so I dont have any coworkers or any other friends or family in the area. Please suggest anything that helps you not feel alone when all you feel like doing is crying but you still have to apply for jobs.
