Suggest me a book that challenged your thoughts on intelligence.

I've been weighing how to post this and decided to keep it broad. Flowers for Algernon is a book I would say fits the criteria, but this post was inspired by Tchaicovsky's Dogs of War. At what point is a being as intelligent as humans and deserving of rights?
