Hi. First of all, I'm not a native english speaker, I'm from Brazil, but I'm looking for recommendations written either in English or Portuguese.
I'm in my mid 20s but never had much of an interest in poetry, but it's probably because in school they made us read the most boring stuff and I got the wrong idea about it. Now I'm trying to explore more about this genre but I have no idea where to start.
Most of what I read is non-fiction, philosophy books. Focused on classical chinese philosophy, ethics and the problem of suffering and human existence. My favorite book is the Zhuangzi, a book that has a very interesting literary style using lots of analogies, metaphors, paradoxes and mysticality to convey its philosophical ideas.
I also, in the past, read a lot of Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith. I like the idea that there are things beyond our comprehension out there, but nowadays I would prefer something a bit more optimistic. I also really enjoy the fantastical creatures and places these authors wrote about.
Someone told me about T.S. Eliot, Rilke e Gibran Khalil, but I have no idea what to expect from them. Are they good for what I'm looking for?
That's it. Thanks.
