Hi everybody! It's the first time I post so I hope this is appropriate for today's theme. I'm currently reading Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and it's probably one of the best books I've ever read.
I've picked it because the theme is similar to the one I'm writing about in my own novel, the rock music scene in the 70s, but I didn't really expect anyhting. I knew there was a tv show about it so I thought "why not?" and bought it.
And now I'm in love. The whole story is super interesting, with a lot of details about the music industry and, especially, a focus on the different experience of men and women in said industry. And even the personal lives of the characters that intertwine are exceptionally good.
The characters are great, realistic and recognizable. The book is structured in an interview, and that allows the reader to see everybody's point of view on the same topic, and how the perception of each character changes.
Another great note is that female characters, especially the protagonist, are absolutely great. They're all strong women with different personalities, passions and ambitions; I've spwnt most of my life reading of strong female characters that were just cold and though, while here there are complex characters that can be weak, messed up, lost and still be strong.
I haven't finished it yet, but it's absolutely a good reading and I'm very happy I gave it a chance!
