I want to read a fictional tale of historical figures love stories or interesting lives but I don’t want it to be a biography I dislike nonfiction. But recently I read a book called A thousand ships which is a retelling of The battle of Troy but from only the women’s perspective which is really interesting I’d recommend it if you haven’t read it.

Thank you in advance for all your recommendations

    1. Margaret George wrote a few fictional historical autobiographies :

Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles (1992)

      The Memoirs of Cleopatra (1997)

      Mary, Called Magdalene (2002)

    3. Hilary Mantel is my favorite historical fiction writer. Wolf Hall (about the Tudors era) is the masterpiece, but A Place Of Greater Safety (about the French Revolution) has more romance.

    5. My main recommendation is Mansions of the Moon by Shyam Selvadurai, a retelling of the life of the wife of the Buddha. It’s really amazing writing, and also has a woman’s perspective of the story of the birth of Buddhism.

If you’re into A Thousand Ships, there’s a lot of Greek mythology retellings that have been released in recent years that you might consider checking out! The Song of Achilles, Circe, Ariadne, Stone Blind, Herc (these are just a few I’ve read or heard of, I’m sure there’s more).

Another recent fiction series that’s based on the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty is She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan.

Not fully fiction, not fully history. Mythology told in the most fun and elegant way that I’ve come across. I thoroughly enjoyed both books.

Edit: looks like the bot showed some other books altogether. AI will soon mess up our minds.
