Hey guys,
I'm a university student who enjoys reading. I feel like I probably miss a lot of the literary devices and intentional style choices that authors choose to use. I want to get better at recognizing them so that I can understand the fiction I read on a deeper level. It would also improve my writing skills.
I know that reading in general can help, but that's only if you know what to look for. For example, I read The Road in high school and I thought its style choices were simply aesthetic until I learned that the sentence structure was intentional to convey the story's mood. Since then, I've gotten better at recognizing these little things on my own.
In high school I took AP literature and the class was game-changing for me so I'm looking for books that teach literary devices/analysis. I read On Writing Well previously to get better at writing and it greatly helped, so I'm hoping I can find something similar for literary analysis.
