Can anyone recommend me some good books about the civil rights movement, any biographies or books about influential people of color and books about jazz, blues, and the people who created the music?

Also any books centered in New Orleans would be a bonus!

Are you looking for fiction or non-fic? There’s a brilliant fiction book called The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton – it’s about a woman interviewing a Black musician about her controversial music career in the midst of the civil rights movement.

    2. Maya Angelou’s autobiographies. There are several volumes and all of them are great – I believe the one most relevant to her involvement in the civil rights movement would be *The Heart of a Woman*. In it, she talks about her acquaintance with Billie Holiday. I particularly recommend the audiobook, which is narrated by Maya Angelou herself and includes her singing whenever a song is part of her narrative.
