My wife is trying to find something new to read. For context she has read the same series of books (The Honor Harrington series) approximately 6 million times and nothing can scratch that same itch.
She loves the in depth, over the top explanations of the science behind the ships and space battles.
She likes how many books there are because she has a lot of choice when picking what vibe she wants.
She likes the female protagonist who works her way up the chain of command.

Have her check out the [Liaden Universe](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liaden_universe). Space opera with fantasy & romance.
There are always free ebooks on both [Baen](https://www.baen.com/agent-of-change.html) or Amazon to introduce the series.
There are plenty of places to [start reading](https://korval.com/publication-list/correct-reading-order/amp/) it’s not a simply linear series
Vatta’s War series by Elizabeth Moon
