A book in which the main character fails or doesn’t measure up and manages to overcome this

I’m not talking imposter syndrome but rather someone who objectively messes up or doesn’t seem to have the talent to achieve their goals. I’m particularly interested if they have to work hard to succeed or to find joy/confidence/acceptance (I.e. there’s not something special about them, they’re not thrown into the right situation at the right time, they don’t possess a magical object that makes them uniquely special or powerful).

One example I remember from my childhood is “Alanna: the First Adventure”. Open to all genres as long as the writing is interesting for an adult
