I was listening to an It ends with us book review the other day, and the person mentioned that the character's name being Lily Bloom, and her opening a flover shop later is played off as a funny twist of fate in the book. But in reality it is just cringe, as the author made it up. I haven't really thought about this before. I suppose when things played off as fate or accidents, whether small or big, are written well, then we don't consider them to be something put there by the author. We are immersed in the book and don't mull over it being meticulously put together by someone. What do you think? Any good or bad examples that come to mind?

It’s cringe because it’s cringe. All fiction is made up by the author.
