I loved Wheel of Time, and Memory Sorrow and Thorn. I’m currently reading Last King of Osten Ard (which means I’m waiting for last book to be released next year lol). I liked Dune and Dune Messiah, haven’t gotten to the subsequent books yet though. I read Sword of Shannarah, but that one didn’t fully pull me in. I tried LotR and the Hobbit, and while I love the story of those, I was not a fan of Tolkien’s prose. Tried reading GoT, but the bleakness got to me. Plus, I’d prefer not to read a series that isn’t done yet, or at least not close to done.
Could I ask please for a fantasy rec? Grad school is hard and I like having a fun escape haha. If any more info would be helpful for recs, let me know and i can update! Thank you!
Edit: adding the assassins apprentice trilogy from realm of the elderlings! Will be back to it at some point, but not for a bit probably

If you enjoyed Dune, have you checked out any of the prequel books? The House trilogy is absolutely amazing! Also the Sisterhood is a fantastic book, it’s essentially the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit.
My first recommendation for you would be the 3rd and 4th Dune books they are my personal favorite! God Emperor of Dune may not be what many consider a “fun escape” however
A series that is a fun escape is the Mistborn Books. I know Brandon Sanderson has a mixed reception here but the original Mistborn Trilogy is really good, and fun!
Robin Hobb’s series of trilogies has a lot of the same good qualities as Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. Start with **Assassin’s Apprentice**.
The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Funny and philosophical. The books are almost all standalones and can be read in any order. If you search for Discworld reading order you can find more information. I don’t suggest starting with the first few. They’re not terrible but he was still figuring things out.
Just started A Cavern of Black Ice by J V Jones and it’s excellent.
