    Finding it quite hard to think of an example that exactly matches what I mean but I do like Leigh Bardugo and certain books from Neil Gaiman although they lean more to the fantasy, hidden world side. Bonus points if it’s a bit dark or unsettling.

    1. The Dresden Files might be what your looking for, although the series goes stronger on the fantasy part in the later books when the world and problems get bigger

    2. The Secret Place by Tana French. It would be a spoiler to say how the magical realism comes in, but I think it really works.
