I’m looking for a good gay romance novel that’s either Fantasy or Historical, but that’s written by a man. I’ve read plenty of pulpy Victorian romance novels, but they always tend to end up with weird characterization on the men in love. Like, it feels like the person who wrote them has never met a gay man before and just kind of writes the relationship like it’s a straight relationship, but both the partners happen to be men. Or the characterization will get weird around the men’s bodies like it was written for women to oogle at, not to actually be enjoyed by men.
So what kind of good romance novels are out there that feature two men and are also written by men? I’d love to read something from an author who understands that kind of relationship dynamic.

Look no further than TJ Klune 🙂 all his books feature gay romance in some way. I’ve so far read House by the Cerulean Sea, Under the Whispering Door, In the Lives of Puppets and Wolfsong (the first book in the Green Creek series). They’re all excellent and recommended.
