I’m looking for a book that follows a lone main character with a lot of introspection, some action, and some interesting characters. I know its kind of specific and the best mainstream example I can think of is the journey of a lone samurai/ ronin. It doesn’t have to be a samurai or ronin, I just like the idea of a lonely character finding his way in a a conflicted world.
Thanks for any suggestions!

See if you can track down a copy of Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa, a fictionalized account of one of the most famous samurai. It was a blockbuster bestseller in its native Japan, and the translation is quite good. It gets pretty deep into Musashi’s beliefs and how he developed them in addition to dramatizing some legendary samurai duels.
You may also want to look into hardboiled detective novels, which often feature a cynical detective trying to do good in a corrupt world. I’d recommend starting with The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler.
