Trying to get back into reading novels, can anyone recommend good action/adventure books, or books that describe interesting places & things?

I'm 22 and can't remember the last time I read something that wasn't a comic/visual novel. I remember when I used to read quite a lot in middle school and the first 2 years of high school I always most liked books where the main character/s were going on some grand adventure, and/or some interesting world is being described. I remember my favorite series being Ranger's Apprentice and the Tunnels series. I also remember enjoying a few different Rick Riordan series as well as The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
Does anyone have any recommendations based on my preferences and past reading?
