I've been writing a fantasy novel (for funsies) and while researching I recently fell down the rabbit hole of Anglo-Saxon runes on Wikipedia. Since then, I've been hyperfixated on Anglo-Saxon England and have been looking to find books about it.
I'm not a big non-fiction reader, so I would like something accessible to a lay-person that also goes reasonably in-depth (I have no idea how in-depth is reasonable).

It should also be popular enough to be found in any old public library.
