I am in the middle of Howl's Moving Castle with my daughter, and she loves it, and I need to find out next book!
My daughter is sensitive to "peril" in stories, so pretty much all the books I read as a kid are out. Other books we've read to her are the Little House on the Prairie series, and the All Creatures Great and Small series. She definitely likes clever writing (Howl's has made her laugh out loud many times). Advanced writing, or even somewhat mature topics are fine, her reading comprehension is high, and I don't mind explaining concepts to her. But characters in danger (peril), or sad, or scary scenes will make her stop reading.
I only know how to describe this as "cozy". (If there's a better description, let me know.)So, give me your favorite cozy bedtime chapter books!
Thanks in advance!

The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall
It’s about four sisters, their dog, and the boy next door and tells the story of their mischievous adventures. It is super funny. My kids loved it, including my son who was 10 at the time.
