Please select only one book (and why you chose it share it with me), i want it to have moved you or changed your life for the good. I am in a tight spot, and im not confident ill be able to raise my children, and ill leave these books to each child to help them through life in my absence. I am a successful person who is self taught in many areas of life. i want them to learn to be emotionally stable people who dont get in the way of their own success. Motivated. Positive. Athletic. Cope to change well. Career oriented family men / women. I want them to learn to teach themselves hard things through self research. I want them to be good people.

    • money management (stocks, budgets, credit cards, loans, but in a fun quick way)
    • importance of health (mental and physical)
    • professional and personal relationships
    • self healing in hard times or self correcting in tough times
    • how to pick friends who are going somewhere.

Im open to many types of books, but pick one please. Please tell me why you chose this book as well.

My answer depends on why you do not expect to be there. If it is due to your death then the following are all appropriate. If it is *not* due to your death then they are *not^ appropriate, as the kid would almost certainly end up transferring resentment from you to these books.

I can’t pick one, I’m sorry. I can narrow it down to ~3.

With that caveat out of the way,

      – A Wizard of Earthsea, Ursula K LeGuin. Multilayered psychological heroes journey of a young, angry, ambitious, and strong willed mc learning to face his own shadow. An outstanding book which established much of the fantasy genre as it has been since. Partially recommended because it is the right choice on its own, partially because getting the kid to read LeGuin in general would be one of the gifts I would prioritize.

      – A Discworld book or three – enough to get them to read the rest. Given that they’d be young when they read them probably Monstrous Regiment, The Amazing Maurice, Wee Free Men. Terry Pratchett

      – Miracle in the Andes, Nando Parrado. Survival non-fiction memoir. Look up the author for more info. Is basically an exact match for what you’re wanting to pass on.

Again, do *not* leave them these books if the reason you won’t be there is anything other than your death. Doing that would deny them the ability to have an untainted relationship with the sorts of books that save and change lives if they found them later. These are not self help or advice books, and they can’t be casually left behind for a kid and have the same impact.

Also, I would recommend Earthsea and Miracle in the Andes to you, as well.
