Hey all, my dad and I have a very complicated relationship because he's always been an alcoholic (currently recovered*) and a narcissist, but I still feel the need to buy him a Christmas gift. So, I want to be a little passive aggressive and buy him books where there are father characters similar to him. I got him the Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls last year, but can't figure it out this year. Anyone have any suggestions?

The first 100 pages of *Fairy Tale* by Stephen King are focused on the relationship between the alcoholic father and the son. It’s extremely well handled … It kind of doesn’t really relate to the rest of the novel, but is done that well that I’m still recommending it.

      The Shining by Stephen King

For a holiday themed offering: You Better Not Cry by Augusten Burroughs. This one is delightful and whimsical, and the father is a trash alcoholic. Then, as he gets farther into the book of memoir stories, everything gets really really gay (like, the author wakes up in a hotel room and realizes that he blacked out and took home a dirty old French Santa kind of gay)
