I need ideas for clean, non-romancey books available on CD for a 99 year old woman who loves Murder She Wrote and Catherine Marshall books. Faith-based is okay but not required. I've already got some Agatha Christie books picked out, but other than that I'm stumped. I don't think she'd be okay with any magical or supernatural stuff. A series would be great. This is completely out of my wheelhouse!

The Flavia de Luce books by Alan Bradley, maybe? They’re a mystery series for adults where the narrator/“detective” is a precocious 11 year old girl with an interest in chemistry, and the audiobook narrator is great. They’re set in a small English town shortly after World War II.

    2. For medieval murder mysteries, she might like the Brother Cadfael novels by Ellis Peters. The first book is A Morbid Taste for Bones.

“Standing in the Rainbow” by Fannie Flagg is really nice. It mostly revolves around a woman running a radio show out of her living room starting in the 1940s. There’s a tiny bit of drama, but overall it’s a very funny and charming book. Flagg also likes to reference old movies and songs in her books, and your friend may like that (especially if she likes gospel music, because that’s a major thread in this book)
