I’ve been diving into a lot of books lately, and I’m realizing how many characters are written with such depth that they feel almost real. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the most multi-layered characters in literature. Which ones stuck with you, and what books are they from? No spoilers, though.

Eva from We Need to Talk About Kevin.
Leah and Adah from The Poisonwood Bible
Hester, John, and Owen from A Prayer for Owen Meany
Eoin Colfer wrote Airman and the Artemis Fowl stories, and his characters are possibly the best I’ve ever read.
Crime and Punishment does an amazing job with the protagonist and everything he went through
Savvy, Scumble, and Switch by Ingrid Law have some really strong protagonists. Savvy is by far the best though.
On My Honor by Avi has two characters, one who is barely even on the pages, that have stuck with me
Rozencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead is a play spinoff of Hamlet, and I found the characters to be earworms of sorts also.
Fun question!
Prince of Tides
Betty, by Tiffany McDaniel. I will love her forever!
