For context, Im writing a story right now and im trying to figure out my main character.
I need as many BOOK suggestions as possible that sound similar to what I am going for, so I can use the character progression/arc/storylines as inspiration and learn as a writer where to go with this story and orient myself.
Read the following notes, they are rough draft notes I jotted down to kind of get a feel for what I am going for.
– The character is trying to get over nostalgia (?)
– growing up
– overcoming fears of growing up/the future/present
– maybe he (my character) doesnt want to return to the past, but rather how he remembers the past.
– possible themes: getting out of your comfort zone even when you dont want to, and rejecting safe monotony slop of a life for something worth living for…?
– ? resentment towards the world because it is changing. his only wish is for the world to revert to how it used to be before theres nothing left of what the world was like back then. back when he had his friends. back when he was happy.
– ? he needs to accept that things will always change and thats not a bad thing. even though past memories may not be able to be experienced again, theres always opportunities to create new ones.
– you cant live in the past forever. sooner or later you have to accept change.
– ? maybe an even deeper point of the story is that true happiness is in the present, not the past and not the future, and the movie would point out the importance of being present/ in the moment.
– maybe character is stuck in the past, and secondary character is stuck in the future…?
– ? A character that doesnt ever want to move on from the past, resents the present, resents change, wants to go back to the good old days when things were simpler and better.
KEEP IN MIND: Its okay if the book/plot/character arc you mention is somewhat different from what I mentioned in my messy draft notes, just keep it related or similar. I need as many ideas as possible bouncing around right now. Also, dont hold back, if your post is super long and you are mentioning 15 books, thats fine. I have needed to read more anyway. It will make me a better writer, if nothing else.
Thank you for your time.
Blessings.
