A Court of Thorns and Roses is a very popular “bad”story but very entertaining.
Earthlings is a good book that feels like watching a slow train wreck that you desperately wish you could stop. Look up trigger warnings for it before jumping into it.
If they are into memoirs Brain On Fire is interesting.

The Push and/ or The Whispers by Ashley Audrain
Rock Paper Scissors
None of This is True
Gone Girl (if they haven’t already read this or watched the movie – spoiler in movie will ruin the book, IMO.)

The Gone-Away World or the Library at Mount Char. Both are a blast.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
The book is amazing. I didn’t precisely like any of the characters, but I couldn’t wait to see what happened next!
She also wrote a novella called The Grownup which is excellent.
Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone
Jane is seeking revenge on her best friend’s ex boyfriend after her friend commits suicide. It’s full of drama, Jane is unhinged, and also awesome!
If you guys don’t mind horror, these are several of my all time favorites.
The September House by Carissa Orlando
How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix
Dweller on the Threshold by Skyla Dawn Cameron
Swordheart by T Kingfisher ( this is romantasy, but there is a little horror as well)
The Hollow Places by T Kingfisher

Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. Modern adaptation of Little Women that is heavy on the drama!
