I take FOREVER to read a book, currently working on the LOTR and have been reading it for 2 years now and still not finished, started with the Hobbit and i still have all the others tolkien wrote as well. But i have been told since i am taking forever that i don't actually read i basically collect books and should just stop embarrassing myself. Does anyone else take their time reading? Trying to prove a point to this person.

Kick that person😆 Honestly, if you are enjoying it, who cares? I used to teach literature and find myself reading very slowly. I have to remind myself that I am not going to be tested on or teaching the book and sometimes it’s OK just to move along.
Everyone reads at their own pace. If you are enjoying it, what does it matter to anyone else?
I read pretty slowly. I blame my adhd. Takes me a month to read a 300 page book. 2 years to finish is pretty slow though. I assume you’re not reading every day? Either way, who cares. Go your own pace.
I read fast and slow. I took all last year to read All The King’s Men, but read some other stuff in between fairly quickly. Depends on if I want to linger in a book or just kick through it.
😡 OK, that makes me mad! You are never embarrassing yourself when you make an effort to do anything! Take all the time in the world that you want and read what you like. It doesn’t matter if you read fast or slow as long as you enjoy yourself and learn something if that’s your goal.
That’s about 1.5 pages per day, how much time a day do you spend reading? Ultimately, don’t care what anyone else says, readings for the benefit of one’s self.
No, i am not a snail reader. If a book grips me im all in. Read and keep reading to keep the movie going. But the book HAS to grip me. If it doesnt grab me in the first 30-60 pages or so im done with it.
But, shockingly, not everyone is me. I know i know, im as surprised as you are. So i say that as long as you like reading that way, no one should tell you to do it any other way.
Is that like reading tea leaves? JK No. I read really fast.
Fiest of all. What other people say means exactly zero in your reading journey. Do what works FOR. YOU.
Second, I did the audio version of the Hobbit with my son when he was six. It was our bedtime reading. He fell asleep in 10 minutes almost every night because the narrators voice was so soothing. Took us a year. He still remembers random bits of it (that I’m fairly sure no other person picked up on🤣)
Yes, super slow. I’ve discovered audiobooks! I even turn the speed up to get my reading moving along instead of dragging. It’s been a complete game changer.
is it with every book or just boring ones like LOTR?
Are you enjoying the book? I find I drag my feet reading books that I feel like I “should” enjoy – and fly through ones that I “actually” enjoy!
I read fast and someone told me I was just speeding through and wasn’t even reading, and I couldn’t appreciate the series they were talking about as much as they did because I sped through it lol. You can’t win either way! Read at whatever pace is comfortable for you! At least you’re reading. So much better than brain rot ☺️
I’m a slow reader too, and nitpicky about having the “right mood” to read. Could not care less about how anyone may feel about the unread books on my shelf. I love them and will get to them eventually.
I do find that immersive reading with an audiobook+ physical book speeds me up and is very satisfying, but it’s hard to make time for that sometimes
I’m a slow reader too! But I’ve realized that it allows me to really enjoy and savor the book. I once had a boss tell me that I don’t get all I can from the story because I read it so slowly. But she was also the type of person to read 100+ books a year and not really get anything from the story or remember it.
