I keep thinking about the movie First Snow with Guy Pearce, in which the protagonist fears that something bad will happen when the first snow of the coming winter falls. This creates a unique atmosphere of impending doom throughout the movie. Are there books that evoke a similar feeling—stories that capture that same sense of unease and center around a vague threat?

‘Leave the World Behind’ is the perfect fit for this. There’s a Netflix movie with Julia Roberts too.

The Darkness That Comes Before by R Scott Bakker is my favorite book and part of a trilogy with a follow up series of four books. Anyways the main character, Achamian has dreams of the past apocalypse each night but is seen as a madman for believing it can happen again. You feel his anxiety as doom approaches. Fantastic books.
