Hi all. Looking desperately for a new favourite books. Here are some things I'd really like to read (I don't expect any book has them all.)
- the protagonist transforms into a monster or otherwise lives among them, willingly rejecting humanity.
- zombie novels that do something different, especially with more zombie POV (and zombies like in Resident Evil, or Prototype)
- 2000-2010 internet energy (i.e horror set on online forums)
- Explores immortality with nuance. Definitely nothing that frames it as purely bad no matter what.
Bonuses for polyam romance, queer characters.

For #4, The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break by Steven Sherrill.
For 1:
– Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. Main character is trying to escape a post-apocalypse cult and slowly changing into a monster. MC is also trans and encounters many queer characters.
For 2:
– Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. It’s essentially Romeo and Juliet but with zombies, and while campy it’s surprisingly good. Main relationship is straight, can’t recall if any queer characters.
For 4:
– The Arc of a Scythe series by Neil Shusterman. It depicts a future utopia where people no longer die, unless they are culled by a specific organization… the Scythes. Has some queer characters including a POV character in later books.
– The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. The protagonist gained immortality, but in exchange lost the ability for anyone to ever remember her. Has some queer side characters
3. John Dies at The End. Although not really set primarily online it has 2010 horror vibes.
4. Tuck Everlasting. The classic OG immortality tale.
