Hi all,
I’m hoping to get a recommendation for a book regarding the tougher feelings that come with having a mother or parent with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Most of the books I’m finding are how to care for their safety, give them moments of joy, etc… I’m starting to feel like I’m the only one having these harsher feelings of resentment and frustration and anger. I need something, whether it be stories or informational, to help remind me of the joy and positives in this situation.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova.
First of all, I’m sorry that you’re dealing with this. Such a difficult thing to endure with dearly loved ones. I don’t have a book recommendation for you, but I do want to offer something based on how you worded this post.

I’d argue that you don’t need something to remind you of joys and positives of the situation, but that you need something that *validates* your feelings of resentment/frustration/anger, because this is a really tough position to be in! If you try too hard to mask what you’re feeling with joy and positivity, those negative feelings will likely only fester into something worse.
That doesn’t mean don’t try and find positives and joys where they can be found of course, that should definitely happen too. But don’t let yourself feel alone in those feelings you’ve described, because they’re perfectly rational emotional responses to the situation you’re dealing with.
