My daughter has requested a “murder mystery” book for her 11th birthday. Chapter books and graphic novels are both good. I would like to get her something fun that isn’t too scary.
Not murder mystery, but a YA thriller mystery, The Emily Carr Mystery by Eric Wilson.
I read this in school as a kid and I’m pretty sure it’s what got me hooked on the genre!
Books in the Nancy Drew series or Hardy Boys are perfect for kids that age

Murder most Unladylike – Robin Stevens – Wells and Wong series.

The Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend starts right as the main character is turning 11. The series as a whole is not a murder mystery (although the fourth one which comes out in a few months apparently features a murder mystery), but there are mysteries and Morrigan is trying to figure out this new world of hers.

*The Westing Game* by Ellen Raskin. A classic! And just a couple of weeks ago, it was revealed she had written a sequel which will be published as soon as they polish it up.
Anything by Ellen Raskin is a big recommend by me.

Nicki Greenberg has a fun series of kids mysteries in the *Detective’s Guide To…* series. Thefts, poisonings, missing people etc

She’s the perfect age for The Beanstalk Murders!
