I was looking over the books I’ve read in the last year or so, and all of my favorites happen to be weird lit written by Asian women. I didn’t seek it out, it’s just a random coincidence. Here’s what I’ve read and loved.

    • Severance – Ling Ma

    • Chlorine – Jade Song

    • Earthlings – Sayaka Murata

    • The Vegetarian – Han Kang

    • The Eyes are the Best Part – Monika Kim

Any other books fit the vibe? Seems I can’t get enough!

    1. You might like Strange Beasts of China by Yan Ge. It’s speculative fiction about a world where different types of beasts exist along with humans.

    2. Here are some I have liked, which I think are close to what you ask for:

      * Salt Fish Girl by Larissa Lai. Weird, but not really *horror*, at least IMO

      * The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw. This author is nonbinary and uses they/them, so I’m not sure if this is close enough to what you request. Dark fantasy, not sci fi. I’ve tried reading other things by them and disliked The All-Consuming World, which was sci fi, but they’ve written a bunch of other horror I have not tried reading yet.

      * The author S. Qiouyi Lu. This author is also nonbinary and uses they/them. I’ve read and enjoyed some of their [short stories, particularly Mother Tongues](https://www.freesfonline.net/authors/S.%20Qiouyi_Lu.html) which fits your request, but haven’t yet read any of their longer works.

*Cursed Bunny* by Bora Chung. It’s a short story anthology, and they’re very weird. Sayaka Murata also has a weird anthology called *Life Ceremony*.

You could also try *Woman, Eating* by Claire Kohda, which is informed by her experience as a mixed-race woman in the UK. It’s about a vampire who longs to eat human food.

*Natural Beauty* by Ling Ling Huang’s on my TBR, I think that counts. And *Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng* by Kylie Lee Baker comes out April 29th.

[HERE](https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/d720445c-d4f6-41a3-a612-015f58e1242a) is a list of books I think of as part of the ‘unhinged women’ horror subgenre.
