I’m not really too sure what to start with! I find myself doing too much stuff on my phone, even if it’s just browsing a particular story I found interesting. I’d rather read instead, but I don’t want to get a book i’m not going to like.
The last time I found myself really reading was in a residential treatment center, and with the lack of options, I only found myself enjoying one book: Recovery Road, by Blake Nelson. I literally finished it in one night, I stayed up and couldn’t stop reading it.
Besides that, I really enjoy true crime, mysteries, horror, non fiction, romance (dark romance maybe?), etc. I’m kind of a nut about diving deep into peculiar cases/events. In the past I’ve kinda stuck to these categories and I’ve really enjoyed them, I just have a problem with discovering new books, because as soon as I finish reading it, I pick up a new book and am dissatisfied with it in comparison to the last. That might be a personal issue I gotta fix though.
I have read certain books which really drag it on or can’t seem to contribute anything new which I also struggle to stick with. I can read long books and series, i just don’t really enjoy when it seems that the word count is more valuable than what the book is even about.
I just want something really interesting thats gonna mess with my head and give me something to think about which makes me eager to continue reading.
I would just like to gather a few suggestions and make some purchases on books, so I can really stock up and try it out. Thanks!🩷

Japan’s Infamous Unit 731 by Hal Gold is short, nonfiction/true crime, and will definitely mess with your head.
There are some really good true crime non fiction authors out there. I don’t know them I haven’t jumped into that genre yet but now that I’ve mentioned it someone will be sure to comment some good ones, right?
I’d recommend I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara for nonfiction. Fiction: I really like Riley sager and Stephen Graham Jones is good
I read a lot of fantasy and sci fi. A good non fiction is killer of the flower moon or the wager by David grann. I also just finished The only one left by Riley sager, which I think fits well into your request
