I love watching movies, horror especially.
I recently got a kindle from my dad since he got a new one. I want to get into books but i don’t exactly know where to start. Also i don’t really know if horror is a good genre to read since i feel like it wouldn’t really make me feel that type of way, but i’ve never really read a horror book. Now don’t get mad, but I have probably read 1 book in the past 5 years, Lord of the Flies, (for school obviously) and i thought it was really good and it kept me interested. I don’t know if this is asking too much but i would like it if the books recommended to me were included with the kindle unlimited subscription. I’m looking forward to what you guys have for me. Thanks!

You might really enjoy “The Troop” by Nick Cutter. It’s definitely horror, and the main characters are all boys around the age of the kids in Lord of the Flies, maybe a few years older.

For an easy and fun read that’s medieval horror, check out:

Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman

Stephen King has some shorter horror that’s easy to get into a well and he is the best known horror author. I’d suggest The Long Walk.

The Hunger Games Trilogy, although not horror, was a great series I read around your age.

I was also your age when I discovered my love of Kurt Vonnegut and Ray Bradbury.

Find short books and classics, don’t be afraid to “do not finish” (dnf) books you don’t enjoy and find your genres.

You may also like The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher or Codex Alera by the same.

There are so many to choose from and these are what I can think of which I picked up young. I struggled with dyslexia in school and still found a love of reading.

Connect styles of other entertainment (videogames/movies) you enjoy to books and you can really get along quickly.

Maybe “World War Z” because it’s short stories so you can kind of just try it.

Dead Girls Can’t Tell Secrets by Chelsea Ichaso

Wake Me After the Apocalypse by Jordan Rivet

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

      Scythe by Neal Schusterman

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso

Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor

She is Haunting by Trang Thanh Tran

      Pet by Akwaeke Emezi

    5. You could try some Stephen King if you want the horror. I read Pet Sematary quite young. It’s not super long. If you have the patience for something longer, I love Needful Things about a small town where ‘the devil’ sets up a shop selling your heart’s desire not for money but for a deed that is horrible to someone else in the town. Chaos reigns.

I’m not sure if they’re on Kindle Unlimited.

Not horror but fantasy, I read an excellent new book on KU recently called Vengeance and Honour by Ben Dixon which was sword and sorcery and suitable for your age. It was fast-paced and action packed which may be good for someone getting back into reading. Plenty of violence, magic and humour. A great adventure.
