Hi there, I’m looking for recs I could share with a friend who just had a big injury. They’re out of sports for 8-12 months at the height of their high school sports career while looking at colleges. Could be inspiring, or just a distraction but I’m thinking sports related is good. American football, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, hockey, anything really. But I don’t know what other topics he’s interested in so I’m having a hard time choosing. Thanks!

TYhe BOOK the blind side is not as awful as the movie, the book that is the inspiration for field of dreams (WP Kinsella) is a good read, WP Kinsella is a good sports read. If they have any interest in fantasy as well, Summerlland by Michael Chabon is awesome

    2. Oof, that’s tough. I definitely recommend [Sucking the Marrow Out of Life: The John Maclean Story](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2670431-sucking-the-marrow-out-of-life). An aspiring rugby player, he was hit by a car while riding his bike and was paralyzed from the waist down. He ended up doing an Ironman triathalon (as a para athlete) and later swam the English Channel.

Edit: Also [In Love with the World: A Monk’s Journey Through the Bardos of Living and Dying](https://monasterystore.org/products/in-love-with-the-world?srsltid=AfmBOoq3z__4om9O2oIhltvQZTrcJx0tOKU6wrR6HMhg-uSkw0kEHlsI). This book is incredible. The book recounts the true story of when the author snuck away from the temple where he was abbot to began a four year homeless retreat in India. Within a few weeks he gets food poisoning and almost dies. The book explores identity and transformation in an accessible yet profound way.
