I’m struggling to understand what it is I’m looking for in a book. I really want to read some kind of epic adventure-type book with just a little bit of romance that actually pays off and isn’t like the entire point of the book.
I like fantasy, I like sci-fi. I’m looking for something I guess like the hunger games (at least with that action/romance ratio) but that’s maybe darker and more complex. I feel like I’ve read really great adventure books but the romance subplots were not really interesting. I love a complex FMC but also I like her to have a personality that’s consistent throughout the book.
I think I just want two characters who are going through something together and like develop a relationship. It doesn’t have to be dramatic, I don’t need spice, I refuse to read anything else that includes the word “hot” in the synopsis.
Some things I’ve read recently and what they lacked for me personally:
- Stormlight Archives (something like this that is like actually romantic)
- Red Rising Series (love the series, but again not really any romance)
- ACOTAR (kind of cheese and too much romance – hated this series and DNF’d it)
- Fourth Wing (really same as ACOTAR. Kind of cheese and too much romance – DNF’d the first book)
