I don’t know what an MG book is, but there are songs in a lot of Walter Scott’s books, some superb folk ballads in Neil Gunn’s *The Silver Darlings*, and some rather amateurish ones that nonetheless work in Patrick MacGill’s *Children of the Dead End*.
